About Measure the Dream

Measure the Dream is a set of free calculators for the questions that come up in the middle of a home project: how many bags, how many boxes, how many sheets. Each one turns your measurements into a shopping list, and each page explains the formula so you can check the math yourself.

How the calculators work

Every calculator uses standard, published figures: the yield printed on concrete bags, the coverage on a paint can, the Energy Star air conditioner sizing chart, the US residential code limits for stairs. Where a number depends on the product you buy, like pallet coverage or the weight of a particular gravel, you can change it.

The calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to us or stored.

Please double-check before you buy

These are estimates for planning and shopping. Real projects have uneven ground, odd angles and products that differ from the averages. Confirm quantities with your supplier, and check permits and code requirements with your local building department before you build.
